The prior requirements are 1 ½ years of bachelor studies in the Humanities or Social Sciences.

The courses:

European Politics 10 ECTS.

The discipline deals with political and social issues after 1945 in a European perspective. The issues are treated in a Humanities perspective, integrating relevant political theories.

Duration:                              One semester. Fall

Assessment:                         Either: a) Active participation plus an individual 10-12 page written paper on an elective subject. Or:   b) A 12-14 page individual 14-day written paper on a set subject.

 

The History of the Idea of Europe 10 ECTS.

The discipline deals with aspects of European history in a broader History of Ideas-perspective. The demonstration of the contested and ambiguous meanings of the concept of ‘Europe’ sets a framework for the analysis of present uses of the concept of ‘Europe’ as they appear, e.g. in the discussion about Europe’s borders, the meanings of the EU, and European identity.

Duration:                              One semester. Fall

Assessment:                         A 10-12 page individual 7-day written paper on a set subject.

 

Modern European History 10 ECTS.

The discipline deals with main trends in modern European History as a backdrop to the contemporary political and cultural situation in Europe. It focuses particularly on the establishment of states and nation states.

Duration:                              One semester. Fall

Assessment:                         A 30-minute individual oral exam with 30 minutes’ preparation time.

EU Institutions 10 ECTS.

The discipline gives a comprehensive introduction to the EU and EU institutions with a particular view to structures, development, and policy-making processes.

Duration:                              One semester. Spring

Assessment:                         A 40-minute individual oral exam with 24 hours’ preparation time.

May be integrated in the Bachelor’s Project. See below.

Cultural Topic 10 ECTS.

Based on theories of culture, the discipline deals with a cultural topic of importance for European integration and cooperation.

Duration:                              One semester. Spring

Assessment:                         A 40-minute individual oral exam with 24 hours’ preparation time.

May be integrated in the Bachelor’s Project. See below.

 

 

Current Affairs in Europe 10 ECTS

The discipline focuses on a European topic or event of current interest using relevant theories and methods in an interdisciplinary approach.

Duration:                              One semester. Spring

Assessment:                         A 40-minute individual oral exam with 24 hours’ preparation time.

May be integrated in the Bachelor’s Project. See below.

Bachelor’s Project 20 ECTS

An interdisciplinary project taking its point of departure in the student’s central subject and integrating two of the disciplines: EU Institutions , Cultural Topic , and Current Affairs in Europe according to the student’s choice.

Duration:                              One semester. Spring

Assessment:                         An individual 18-20 page written paper on an elective subject.
